Dive into the world of conservation at Fundación Loros, a 1,000-acre natural reserve located just an hour from Cartagena. This sanctuary is dedicated to rehabilitating and releasing parrots and macaws rescued from illegal trafficking, while also caring for three remarkable monkey species: Cotton-top Tamarins monkeys, Red Howlers, and Capuchins.

What makes this volunteer experience truly special? You’ll actively participate in prepare and deliver the food to the monkeys including fruits cultivated in the local area, ensuring a sustainable and nutritious diet. You’ll also contribute to reforestation efforts to restore their habitat and learn about the challenges of conserving these vulnerable species.

Important: Please remember that it is not permitted to feed the animals directly, or touch them. All activities take place under the supervision of our trained foundation staff, as this is a rehabilitation center, not a zoo.

What to expect

Embark on a rewarding journey Into the Wild, where you’ll play an essential role in the conservation efforts for monkey reintroduction. Nestled within a lush tropical dry forest, this sanctuary is home to Red Howlers, Capuchins, and the endangered Titi monkey, as well as colorful parrots and majestic macaws.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast by the lake at Fundación Loros, followed by a talk from expert guides who will share the triumphs and challenges of wildlife conservation.

Explore the forest aboard a rugged 4x4 vehicle, where you’ll marvel at Cerro de los Loros and meet local farmers, learning about their role in preserving this ecosystem. You’ll also help harvest cassava and papaya, learning about sustainable farming traditions.

Your hands-on experience includes preparing and delivering food to monkeys, planting a native tree, and fostering sustainable interaction with the forest’s unique wildlife.
