What to expect

Experience the wonders of the tropical dry forest on a guided hike just an hour from Cartagena. Begin your day with a traditional breakfast by the lake and explore vibrant trails led by an expert. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to see the Cotton-top Tamarin monkey, an endemic monkey of Colombia, along with Red Howlers, Capuchins, and a variety of colorful birds like macaws and toucans.

As part of this adventure, you’ll ascend a mountain stream, passing a scenic waterfall and a centuries-old dam ingeniously built by Indigenous people seeking refuge from the Spanish—an immersive glimpse into both nature and history.

During your hike, enjoy an educational talk from biologists about the rehabilitation of rescued parrots and macaws. You’ll help to prepare and deliver the food to these birds, connecting deeply with their care. This experience combines breathtaking landscapes, wildlife encounters, and a hands-on contribution to conservation.

Important: Please remember that it is not permitted to feed the animals directly, or touch them. All activities take place under the supervision of our trained foundation staff, as this is a rehabilitation center, not a zoo.
