What to expect

Winter Wilderness Challenge
Get a real taste of expedition life in Iceland’s remote Westfjords — one immersive day designed as preparation for longer journeys in Arctic conditions.

Far from the crowds, you’ll glide across frozen fjords on cross-country skis, pulling a pulka sled just like the classic polar explorers. Along the way, your certified guides will introduce you to essential winter travel and survival skills, including:

Nordic skiing techniques & pulka management

Using winter camping equipment

Building natural snow shelters

Fire-making workshop

Outdoor cooking

Other core expedition skills

At day’s end, you’ll return with your guides to the charming town of Ísafjörður. For those seeking a deeper challenge, there is the option to spend the night in the camp you’ve built — gaining first-hand experience of true winter camping — before returning to Ísafjörður independently the following morning.

Led by professional, experienced guides, this one-day expedition is a rare chance to embrace the solitude and beauty of the Icelandic winter while learning practical polar skills that prepare you for real expeditions.
