Charles Bridge (Karlův most) is a historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. The bridge replaced the old Judith Bridge built 1158–1172 that had been badly damaged by a flood in 1342. This new bridge was originally called Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge but has been "Charles Bridge" since 1870. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava (Moldau) until 1841, Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and adjacent areas. This "solid-land" connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe.
We visit this stunning place located on the Vyšehrad rock to enjoy fantastic views over Vltava river, Imperial Meadow island and panorama of Prague Castle complex.
Petřín (327 m) is a hill in the center of Prague, Czech Republic. It rises some 130 m above the left bank of the Vltava River. The hill, almost entirely covered with parks, is a favorite recreational area for the inhabitants of Prague. We specially visit Petřín Rose Park covered by bunch of roses all over the place which is extremely romantic.
Kampa is an island in the Vltava river in central Prague on the side of Malá Strana. Charles Bridge crosses its northern tip and is connected to the island by the street ulice Na Kampě. It is separated from Malá Strana by a narrow artificial channel to the west called the Devil's Stream (Čertovka), a waterway dug to power water mills (no longer existent). It is supposedly named after a sharp-tongued woman who lived in a local home called the Seven Devils.
The Lennon Wall or John Lennon Wall is a wall in Prague, Czech Republic. Once a normal wall, since the 1980s it has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs[1]. Located in a small and secluded square across from the French Embassy, the wall received its first such decoration following the 1980 assassination of John Lennon when an unknown artist painted a single image of the singer-songwriter and some lyrics.
The Basilica of St Peter and St Paul is a neo-Gothic church in Vyšehrad fortress, founded in 1070-1080 by the Czech King Vratislav II, the Romanesque basilica suffered a fire in the year 1249 and has been rebuilt in Gothic and later in neo-Gothic style. The basilica features an impressive stone mosaic above its entry, and its twin 58 m towers can be seen atop a hill to the south from along the Vltava River in central Prague. We enter this church because off seing the relics of St Valentine which are placed inside.Saint Valentine was a widely recognized 3rd-century Roman saint commemorated on February 14 and since the High Middle Ages is associated with a tradition of courtly love. Behind the church is located large park and Vyšehrad cemetery, the final resting place of many famous Czechs, including author Karel Čapek and composer Antonín Dvorák. In 2003 the church was elevated to basilica by Pope John Paul II.
Paddle boats on the river, that is Prague´s classic. I can hardly imagine anything more charming and romantic than hire the small boat or paddle boat and wonder around the small islands on Vltava.
We are not going to shop at the farmer´s market, don´t worry. It is only running on Saturday morning. But we definitely walk around to show you where you can go in the evening with your second half to enjoy the local atmosphere. Where you can simply sit next to the river and enjoy lovely warm sunny evening by drinking the local pint of Czech beer.
John Lennon wall is right around the corner, so why not take a look? There is also the old Mill right there on the river, and one of the nicest restaurants we can sit and ate at if you like. Velkoprevorsky Mlyn is the restaurant, with outdoor seating, but under a pergola, with misters keeping you cool in the summer! Lovely plants all around you and excellent service! I love the area, and the Lover's Bridge is always a lovely addition to our touring.
