This private Rijksmuseum tour covers the masterpieces you came for and the stories most visitors walk straight past. Your entry tickets are included, the group is only yours, and the route adapts to your pace.
Your guide takes you to Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals and Van Gogh, then widens the frame. You meet women, LGBTQ+, Jewish and BIPOC artists and sitters who shaped Dutch history, from flower painter Rachel Ruysch to Judith Leyster and Thérèse Schwartze, and you see the vast Battle of Waterloo.
The museum was built to celebrate a national story. This tour asks who decided which stories made the walls, and what that tells us today. It was co-created with an artist and Rijksmuseum guide and suits first-timers and repeat visitors alike.
Plan for 2 to 2.5 hours. The tour is wheelchair accessible, a coffee break can be added on request, and you can stay in the museum afterwards. Displays can change due to loans and restoration.
Meet your guide at Cobra Café on Museumplein, just behind the Rijksmuseum. From the Rijksmuseum, walk through the passage under the building toward Museumplein; the glass-fronted café is on the square. Your guide will have your museum tickets.
The tour ends inside the Rijksmuseum. You are free to stay in the museum as long as you like afterwards.
