Our first stop will be Thingvellir, a national park recognized by UNESCO. From the park, we marveled at the breathtaking expanse of Þingvallavatn, the largest lake in the country. Walking amidst the park, we traversed the remarkable boundary between the European and American continental plates. We also witnessed the historic gathering place of the Althing, the world's oldest parliament, and gazed into Silfra, a symbolic fissure renowned for its crystal-clear waters, drawing divers from all around..
Next, we ventured into the Valley of Geysers, where we unraveled the etymology of the word "Geysir," which christened all such geothermal marvels. The highlight was Strokkur, Iceland's tallest geyser, erupting every few minutes with impressive force, sending water spurting up to 30 meters into the sky. The vibrant hues of mineral deposits on the ground and the smoky valley combined to create an otherworldly ambiance.
Our exploration then led us to the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. This powerful cascade cascaded down in two magnificent steps, showcasing an awe-inspiring display of cascading water. If luck favored us with clear skies, a radiant rainbow adorned the waterfall, adding to its natural grandeur. We relished multiple vantage points, even daring to venture closer, and embracing the possibility of getting lightly drenched by the waterfall's mist.
Friðheimar is a farm operated by an Icelandic family who is breeding Icelandic horses and growing vegetables all year round with help from nature. We stop at Fridheimar tomato farm for short excursion and delicious lunch.
Stop at Kerið - volcanic crater lake in the Grímsnes area of South Iceland. It is close to the three major sites that comprise Iceland's world-famous Golden Circle tour.
Laugarvatn Fontana is a Spa & Wellness center built on natural hot springs. One of Iceland's best attractions! Enjoy steam baths, geothermal pools & more.
During our journey, our first destination will be the magnificent Seljalandsfoss waterfall, standing tall at 60 meters. As you approach, a spacious path carved into the cliffside will allow you to leisurely explore the waterfall from various angles, offering a truly awe-inspiring experience. Prepare to be captivated by the otherworldly beauty of Seljalandsfoss as you pass through the misty veil of water, rising above the rocks like ethereal smoke. On sunny days, you'll be treated to the enchanting sight of vibrant rainbow arches gracing the skies above the cascading Seljalandsfoss.
Continuing along our route, we will encounter another breathtaking waterfall known as Skogafoss. This remarkable waterfall spans 25 meters in width and plummets an impressive 60 meters in height. Legend has it that Skogafoss is intertwined with the tale of the valiant Viking Tracy Thoroulfsson and an ancient ring. The allure of this natural wonder, coupled with its mythical connections, makes Skogafoss an unforgettable stop on our journey.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, shaped by the relentless forces of volcanoes, stands as one of Iceland's premier natural wonders. This renowned coastal stretch boasts a mesmerizing expanse of pure black gravel and imposing obsidian boulders. Esteemed publications have repeatedly hailed Reynisfjara as one of the world's most exquisite beaches, while filmmakers often select it as a backdrop for science fiction films due to its otherworldly landscapes. Prepare to be immersed in the ethereal beauty and raw power of this remarkable beach.
Our next destination awaits at the captivating Dyrholaey peninsula, where the landscape gracefully complements the traditional white and red lighthouse. As we ascend to the cape's summit, a breathtaking panorama unfolds before your eyes—ocean waves crashing against a magnificent black rocky arch, through which ships and specialized amphibious vehicles traverse. Dyrholaey is not only a visual feast but also a haven for avian life. During the nesting season, which occurs in the summer, you will have the pleasure of encountering Iceland's cherished feathered symbols, the puffins, along with various other bird species, as Dyrholaey serves as a true sanctuary for these winged creatures.
Our first stop will be Skaftafell National Park, where we'll embark on a small hiking adventure. The trail covers a distance of 3.7 kilometers round-trip, with an estimated walking time of 1 to 1.5 hours. Here, you'll be surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty and have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the park's serene atmosphere.
Next, we'll make our way to Svartifoss waterfall, aptly named "dark waterfall" due to the dark basalt columns that frame its cascading waters. This unique geological feature adds a touch of mystique to the already picturesque landscape.
Continuing our journey, we'll drive to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where you'll be treated to a magnificent view of massive floating icebergs and the grandeur of the glacier itself. For those seeking an extra thrill, there's an optional boat trip available on an amphibian boat. Sail among the stunning blue icebergs, surrounded by the captivating scenery of Jökulsárlón, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
In the evening, we'll witness the beauty of the sunset on the enchanting Diamond Beach. While its official name is Breiðamerkursandur, meaning "Broad Plain Sand," this beach is known as Diamond Beach due to the glistening chunks of ice that adorn its shore year-round. As the sun's rays dance upon the ice, creating a shimmering spectacle, you'll be captivated by nature's brilliance.
