Learn the art of the classic Lowcountry boil with Captain Bryan right on the picturesque banks of Shem Creek. This private cooking class offers an authentic taste of Charleston culture as you dive into the shrimping industry’s history. Guests will meet at a specially designed food trailer with wrap around bar seating on the banks of the creek. Start by creating a fresh shrimp ceviche with local ingredients, then engage in a fun shrimp peeling competition. Under Captain Bryan’s guidance, you’ll learn how to prepare a mouthwatering Lowcountry Boil featuring local shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes, seasoned to perfection. Enjoy your culinary creations in a relaxed setting, making this an unforgettable local experience.

Meeting and pickup

Meeting point

Please take the gravel path at 248 Magwood Lane. Please park alongside the right side of gravel path (parallel to it) before reaching the end. From there guests can walk to the Backyard Boil Trailer.

What to expect

Guests will start out meeting at the Backyard Boil Trailer which has wrap around bar seating and shade coverings. Capt B (a lifelong local) will introduce the shrimping industry and its affects on the area while teaching guests how to prepare a local shrimp ceviche. Guests will help participate in a shrimp peeling competition to learn how to peel shrimp effectively.

Once the ceviche is finished as an appetizer the Lowcountry Boil will be started and Capt B will reveal his families recipe and secret ingredients. Guests will learn proper timing and when to make additions of various items. Once finished guests will be able to enjoy this meal with sunset views of the most famous creek in Charleston.
