The Imperial City of Hue was actually a walled fortress and palace belonged to the ancient city of Hue which was a capital city of the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years date back from 1805 until 1945.

In general, Khai Dinh tomb is a rectangular construction with up to 127 steps. Mountains and streams around the tomb not only serve as Feng-Shui elements but also create a majestic natural scenery. Compared to other tombs in Hue, Khai Dinh tomb is smaller, yet more elaborate and time-consuming. It is the combination of East-West classic and modern architectures.
