Begin your day with a delightful breakfast, and then join your tour guide to explore some of Aswan's captivating tourist attractions. The Aswan High Dam, a modern marvel, was constructed between 1960 and 1970 during President Gamal Abdel Nasser's tenure. This remarkable dam was designed as a collaborative project with the Hydro Project Institute in Moscow to achieve several objectives. It aimed to provide better control over the annual Nile floods, generate hydroelectricity, and increase water storage capacity for irrigation in its vast reservoir, Lake Nasser, and unfortunately, it posed a potential threat to the iconic Abu Simbel and Philae temples.
The Unfinished Obelisk is a monumental marvel, created under the reign of Queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC), with the intention of standing at the entrance of the Karnak temple. Known as "Tekhenu," meaning "to pierce the sky," it offers insights into the meticulous craftsmanship involved in crafting obelisks from raw stone and the construction techniques of ancient Egypt. This colossal obelisk reached a towering height of 42 meters and weighed an astonishing 1,200 tons. Unfortunately, it sustained a crack during its construction, and it has remained at its original location to this day.
Temple of Philae: A romantic island temple dedicated to the goddess Isis.
Optional Abu Simbel Tour: Journey to Ramses II’s monumental temple, carved into the cliffs. In the early morning hours, you will embark on a journey to visit one of Egypt's most historically significant archaeological sites. This awe-inspiring temple was commissioned by the great King Ramses II (1279-1213 BCE) during Egypt's New Kingdom period (1570-1050 BC) to eternally commemorate his legacy. Abu Simbel comprises two remarkable temples, with the grander one dedicated to Ramses himself. This colossal temple plays a pivotal role in the annual Sun Festival, occurring on the 22nd of February and October each year. During this extraordinary event, the sun's rays illuminate the faces of the four seated statues within the temple: Ramses II, Ptah (the God of creation), Amun (the Creator God), and Ra (the Sun God). The smaller temple adjacent to it is a tribute to Ramses' beloved wife, Queen Nefertari.
Following your visit to Abu Simbel, you will return to Aswan for a hearty lunch.
Visit the unique Temple of Kom Ombo, honoring both the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris.
