La Vanille Nature Park, originally known as La Vanille Crocodile Park, was established in 1985. Its name reflects the old vine cultivated in the valley where the 5-hectare reserve is located. In this enchanting setting, Mauritian hospitality, nature conservation, and animal welfare are prioritized. Our guides will lead you on an unforgettable tour of the reserve. Conservation projects at La Vanille are crucial, as many plant and animal species face extinction due to deforestation, hunting, and invasive species. The park is dedicated to protecting habitats, captive breeding for reintroduction, and farming to reduce the demand for wild-caught animals.
Spread over 3.5 hectares in the south of the island, this reserve, which was created in 1985, now allows you to observe the largest colony of turtles, with 1,000 individuals, including Domino , the dean of the reserve and one of the largest turtles in the world. The site is also home to 2,000 Nile crocodiles, the animals can be observed at different stages of their growth. During the visit, you will also have the opportunity to see monkeys, bats, deer, geckos, wild boars and carp ... to name just a few species of the reserve. The park is widely known throughout the island for its insectarium where the work of Jacques Siedlecki is stored; a collection of 23,000 species of beetles, butterflies and other insects for a multitude of shapes and colors.
