We'll take a look at the newly renovated gothic cathedral, optionaly you can climb the tower (over 300 steps). The construction of the church dedicated to the patron saint of Pilsen, St. Bartholomew, began with the foundation of the town (1295) and was completed in the early 16th century. In 1993, when Pope John Paul II established a diocese in Plzeň, the Church of St. Bartholomew became a cathedral. Free entry to the church, entrance to the tower is paid (not included, 90 CZK). Opening times: working days 10am-6pm, weekends and holidays 1pm-6pm. Alternatively it is possible to visit the synagogue.
"Thank You, America!" Memorial in Pilsen commemorates the liberation of the city by the U.S. Army in May 1945. Located at the intersection of Americká and Klatovská streets, it features two granite pylons shaped like a "V" for victory, symbolizing gratitude toward General Patton’s troops.
The brewery museum is in a unique 15th century brewery house. You will learn a lot about the history of beer production. A printed guide and mobile app are available. We will join the tour at 11:20.
Pilsen's medieval underground is 19 km long. It was used to store food and ice and to make beer. There were 360 wells. The tour includes a waterworks from the 16th century. Beware, it's cold (42F). Admission included in the combined ticket.
We'll stop for lunch at one of the restaurants on Republic Square. They offer traditional Czech dishes, but international cuisine is available too. We'll have about 1 hour for lunch (not included in the tour price) before continuing to the highlight of our day—the brewery tour.
The highlight of the day! We'll go on a brewery tour where you'll see the brewing technology, an exhibit about beer production and the cellars where you'll get to taste the best beer in the world. At the end there is a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs. We will join the tour at 2:30pm. Admission 380 CZK.
