This is truly a voyage you don´t want to miss! With its rhyolite mountains, geothermal areas, black sand desert, canyons, glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls and so much more… Our trip begins at Mt. Hekla, one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes. It was labelled “The Gateway to Hell” after it’s 1104 eruption. That reputation grew with its 1341 eruption. People reported seeing birds fly amidst the fire with some believing it to be swarming souls from hell. Even today some say Hekla has preserved its diabolic status, claiming it is the spot where witches encounter the devil!
Mælifell stands 200 meters above its surroundings and it is a composite cone volcano formed by volcanic eruptions underneath the Myrdalsjökull glacier.
