PRIVATE VOLCANIC WESTMAN ISLANDS TOUR
Join us on a full-day journey to the Westman Islands, where dramatic cliffs, volcanic craters and vibrant birdlife define Iceland’s wildest island chain. We begin with a scenic drive across black-sand plains before boarding the ferry to (Heimaey) Westman Islands, sailing past rugged sea cliffs and into a stunning natural harbour often filled with soaring seabirds.
On arrival, take in views of Eldfell Volcano, walk through the preserved eruption remains at the Eldheimar Museum, and enjoy an included lunch at GOTT. We then explore Heimaey’s spectacular southern cliffs, one of Iceland’s best puffin-spotting areas.
Your tour also includes entry to the Beluga Whale Sanctuary, a peaceful bay home to rescued belugas. We continue to Elephant Rock, the island’s iconic sea sculpture shaped like a giant elephant dipping its trunk into the Atlantic, before concluding at Heimaey’s striking black church, a historic Norwegian gift and a symbol of resilience.

Your day begins with a scenic drive to Landeyjahöfn before boarding the short ferry across rugged sea cliffs and into Heimaey’s beautiful natural harbour, often accompanied by thousands of seabirds soaring overhead.
On arrival, you’ll dive into Heimaey’s extraordinary past, including the 1973 eruption that reshaped the island and forced a full evacuation. From the harbour, gaze toward Eldfell Volcano, the still-warm crater responsible for this dramatic event. A guided visit to the award-winning Eldheimar Museum brings this story to life through preserved homes and powerful exhibits that reveal how locals rebuilt their community after the disaster.
You’ll enjoy an included lunch at GOTT, one of the islands’ most beloved restaurants. Known for its wholesome, homemade dishes and warm island hospitality, GOTT caters to all dietary preferences, including vegan and vegetarian options.
After lunch, your guide takes you to Heimaey’s southern cliffs, one of Iceland’s best puffin-spotting locations in summer. A gentle coastal walk offers stunning ocean views, dramatic cliff edges, and the chance to see these colourful seabirds nesting in their natural habitat.
Your tour also includes entry to the Beluga Whale Sanctuary, a peaceful bay where rescued belugas live under expert care. It’s a rare opportunity to get close to these gentle creatures while learning about marine conservation in Iceland.
We will then see the island’s most iconic rock formation, shaped like a giant elephant dipping its trunk into the sea.
This incredible adventure then concludes with a visit to a striking wooden black church, a gift from Norway and a symbol of the island’s resilience and history.
