In mid-July through August, we walk the banks of the Indian River to witness the salmon run — the only Sitka tour that takes you there on foot with a fully guided trail through the ancient Tongass rainforest, where you'll discover native plants, their medicinal uses, and their role in Tlingit culture.

Meeting and pickup
You will be notified of your pickup spot in a message through Viator after booking. We have an Aframe sign set up at the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. Please stop by the sign to check in when disembarking from the ship. If we are meeting you at Harrigan Centennial Hall, we will be there holding a Bumble Expeditions Flag. You will be notified after booking which location to check in. If you have questions, please contact us.
Harrigan Hall is the end stop from the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal shuttle. If you have been told to meet us there, please look for someone holding a Bumble Expeditions flag.

This is where most tours drop you off and walk away. We go deeper. Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital sits on a stunning 17-acre campus bordering the Tongass National Forest and the Indian River. Your guide leads you through the entire experience — meeting the resident raptors who serve as living ambassadors for their species, watching recovering eagles train in the state-of-the-art flight aviary, and hearing the remarkable rescue story behind every bird. Then we take the trail. Follow your guide through the lush Tongass rainforest to the banks of the Indian River — learning the stories of the ancient forest along the way. Discover the native plants that have sustained this ecosystem for thousands of years: their medicinal properties, their role in Tlingit culture, and the wildlife that feeds on them. In mid-July through August, the trail leads you to the salmon run — a wall-to-wall spectacle of fish surging upstream that has to be seen to be believed.
