Agia Irini Gorge Hike and Libyan Sea

The gorge of Agia Irini, one of the most beautiful gorges
of Crete, is located at the west part of the White
Mountains and it is declared as a Refuge of Wildlife. The
gorge is the habitat of rare mammals, like the wild
Cretan goat (Kri-kri or Capra aegagrus cretica) and
birds, like the Cretan vulture and the golden eagle.

The gorge hosts rich vegetation that flourishes along
the river bank. Witness many endemic species and rare
“artistic” tree formations. Agia Irini is a small, but evenly
beautiful gorge with the well-known gorge of Samaria,
giving you the chance to experience the wild nature of
Crete, undistracted by the vast amounts of other
groups of hikers.
