During this tour, we will visit Kaunas, the provisional capital of Lithuania during the interwar period and now the second-largest city in the country. It’s worth exploring the Old Town, the castle grounds, and the modernist buildings while discussing pre-war independent Lithuania and the lives of its people.
We will stroll through Kaunas Old Town, visiting the castle, cozy streets, the remnants of several churches, and the Old Presidential Palace. Kaunas modernism is unique and increasingly recognized, showcasing architectural innovation. We will take the historic funicular to enjoy panoramic views of the city.
As part of the tour, we will also visit Pažaislis Monastery, an enriching experience that highlights the region's cultural heritage. I provide this tour from Vilnius, including pickup and drop-off at your hotel. If you are staying in Kaunas, I can meet you at your hotel for a convenient start to your adventure.

The Historical Presidential Palace is a Neo-Baroque building located in the Old Town of Kaunas, Lithuania, that served as the Presidential Palace during the interwar years. Today, the palace is a branch of the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum. Vienybės (Unity) Square is one of the most important squares in Kaunas, featuring the Liberty Monument, the War Museum, and numerous sculptures. There are numerous modernist buildings in the surrounding area of Kaunas. Kaunas modernism was designated as part of UNESCO World Heritage in 2023.

6Aleksotas Funicular
The funicular, constructed on the right bank of the Nemunas River, was officially opened on December 6, 1935. The Aleksotas funicular features a track that has remained unchanged since its opening, with a central separation allowing carriages to pass each other. As you ascend, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the river below. Special automatic brakes have been installed in the carriages to ensure safety in case of cable damage. The length of the funicular is 142 meters (466 ft), with a gradient of 29.5 degrees. Remarkably, authentic traction equipment, including the original pre-war wagons, wooden seats, and stop platforms, are still in use today, enhancing the charm of this historic ride

7Pazaislis Monastery and Church
