Declared by UNESCO as a place of special natural beauty, this small blue lagoon is located very close to the archaeological site of Heraion, from which it took its name (Heraion Lagoon) and to the settlement of Perachora. Its depth does not exceed 40 meters, its length is 2 kilometers and its width is one kilometer. Its beach is sandy and its waters communicate with those of the Gulf of Corinth through a narrow channel. Its waters, much saltier than the open sea, which are renewed with the phenomenon of high and low tide every about six hours, are initially shallow while later they deepen sharply. They are considered particularly warm and allow swimming until late in the autumn. It is an ideal family destination, while visitors are given the opportunity to enjoy water sports, visit the picturesque chapel of Agios Nikolaos or the channel that releases the water towards the Gulf of Corinth, as well as enjoy good food, drinks or coffee with a heavenly landscape in the background.
Visit the archaeological site of Heraion and see up close the Temple of Hera located in the harbour beneath the Melagkavi lighthouse, relics dating back to antiquity such as an L-shaped stoa (freestanding colonnade or covered walkway), a large cistern, dining halls as well as a second smaller temple. The relics found in the area demonstrate its importance during the pre Roman Age.
