    Our Lady of the Rocks

Our Lady of the Rocks, which stands proudly in front of the Old Town of Perast, is one of two charming islands located in the Bay of Kotor. It is considered one of the main tourist attractions in this part of the Adriatic sea – because of the legend of its origin and unreal beauty. According to tradition, the Lady of Rocks was built at the place where the Moršić brothers found an image of the Mother of God. The citizens of Perast threw stones around the cliffs and built a small chapel. Later they continued to bring stones to the island, which made it grow bigger and bigger over time. By the way, this custom of piling stones (known as Fašinada) around our Lady of Rocks has grown over time into a traditional ceremony that has been continuously held every July 22 for more than 500 years!
