You’ll head out onto Penobscot Bay and actively take part in hauling real lobster traps, learning the tools, techniques, and traditions from local knowledge along the way.
As each trap comes up, you’ll gather round to see what’s inside—lobsters, crabs, and the occasional surprise—while hearing how this iconic fishery is carefully managed to thrive for generations.
Then, instead of just heading back, you’ll step ashore for a VIP dockside stop at Young’s Lobster Pound. Enjoy a private, behind-the-scenes feel before settling in for a classic Maine lobster feast—fresh, simple, and exactly how it should be.

Make your way to the Belfast City Harbor Dock and find the Nautilus restaurant. With the Nautilus on your left, walk toward the water—you’ll see a ramp down to the dock and a white lobster boat waiting. Head down to meet your captain and guide. If unsure, just ask anyone for the Back & Forth boat.

This is more than a boat tour. It’s a small-group, working waterfront experience, where you’ll step into the real rhythm of the Maine coast—salt air, open water, and the quiet focus of life on the bay.
You’ll learn the tools and techniques behind Maine lobster fishing as we cruise out to the trap lines. Watch—and take part—as traps are hauled from the water using the winch system, then gather round to see what’s inside. Expect lobsters, crabs, and the occasional surprise catch.
Along the way, hear stories from the boat—local knowledge, superstitions, and how the fishery is managed to keep it thriving for generations. It’s a deeper, more authentic connection to what’s really happening on the water.
Then, we head ashore for a VIP stop at Young’s Lobster Pound, where you’ll enjoy a proper Maine lobster feast—fresh, simple, and exactly how it should be.
