Make your way to the City Harbor Dock and find the Nautilus restaurant. With the Nautilus on your left, walk toward the water—you’ll see a ramp down to the dock and a white lobster boat waiting. Head down to meet your captain and guide. If unsure, just ask anyone for the Back & Forth boat.

Out on Penobscot Bay, the scenery opens up into classic Maine coastline—low, spruce-covered islands, rocky shorelines, and wide stretches of calm water reflecting the evening light. As you move beyond the harbor, you’ll pass working lobster boats, quiet coves, and the occasional sailboat drifting through the bay. Wildlife is often part of the experience. Seals surface nearby, seabirds move across the water, and on calmer evenings you may see fish breaking the surface as the bay settles into the night. As the sun begins to set, the light shifts across the water, creating soft colors and reflections that change minute by minute. The coastline takes on a different feel—quieter, slower, and more atmospheric. It’s not about one single sight, but the combination of open water, coastal views, wildlife, and the changing sky that makes this part of the Maine coast so memorable.
