Allahabad Fort is located near the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the River Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati. It is the largest fort built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. The fort was built around a fig tree, considered sacred to the Hindus. Building a fort around the tree is considered by many as an attempt to prevent more suicides. Another legend says that the construction of the fort took a very long time as each time the foundation would sink in the sand. The Emperor was told that a human sacrifice was required to ensure the construction of the fort. A local Brahmin voluntarily sacrificed himself and in return the Emperor granted his family the exclusive rights of servicing pilgrims visiting the River Ganges. The fort became a part of the territories of the East India Company and served as a military garrison for the British. Once your tour will be finished you will be driven back to fixed point / your hotel.
