    Zeedijk

    Zeedijk, also known as Amsterdam's Chinatown area consists of a number of city blocks crammed with Asian markets, restaurants and shops. Here you can find, not only Chinese people and shops, but other Asian cultures too such as Thai, Malay and Indonesian. Street signs are in Chinese as well as Dutch. The most important tourist sight is the Zeedijk Buddhist temple, which is free and open every day, except Mondays.

    Spooksteeg, Ghost Alley in English is located in the famous Red Light district. It is believed to be the residing place of one of the oldest ghosts in the city, a woman from the 18th century named Helena.

    The Oude Kerk, or the Old Church as it's known in English is Amsterdam’s oldest building and oldest parish church, founded circa 1213 and it's located in Amsterdam's main red-light district. Originally built as a Catholic place of worship, but later became one of the unique buildings expressing the national character of Dutch Protestantism.

    Royal Palace Amsterdam

    The Royal Palace of Amsterdam is situated on Dam Square in the centre of Amsterdam. It was originally built as the city hall for the magistrates of Amsterdam. The Royal Palace on the Dam is one of the three Palaces, which the State has placed at the King's disposal by an Act of Parliament. It is used for Royal Events, the King's New Year reception and other official appointments.

  • Begijnhof (Pass by)

    (optional when time allows) The Begijnhof is an enclosed courtyard dating from the early 14th century. Nothing survived of the earliest dwellings, but the Begijnhof, which is cut off from the traffic and noise of the city. It was originally built as a sanctuary for the Begijntjes, a Catholic sisterhood who lived like nuns, although they took no monastic vows. Houses in Begijnhof are still occupied by single women.
