Generally, our pick-up point is the airport. However, if you are staying at a hotel in Iquitos, please specify this when booking your experience.
Upon arrival at the airport, we will be waiting for you to start the adventure. We will take a city tour of Iquitos, a colourful, dynamic city with a captivating past. In this tour you will be able to appreciate the most emblematic attractions of the city.
Then, we will drive in a private vehicle to the city of Nauta, the historic river port where we will embark. Upon arrival in Nauta (about two hours from Iquitos), we will board Amatista and our staff will accompany you to the cabin that we have specially equipped for you with the comforts you need to have a completely pleasant trip.
The ship will start the journey on the Marañón River. At this point, the naturalist guides will present the trip plan, the routes to follow and the programmed activities. And the best part: they will begin to introduce us to the wonderful world of Amazonian wildlife. Pay attention to their advice and recommendations, and keep in mind that if you have any doubts or questions, our guides will always be at your disposal. After the briefing on board, we will have a welcome lunch, your first experience with the delights of the regional gastronomy.
Before dinner, we will start a night excursion by boat to the Nauta Caño area, in search of animals that can only be spotted at sunset: caimans, bats, frogs, tarantulas and other species that inhabit the lush forest of our jungle. After this first immersion in the world of the jungle, we will return to the boat to enjoy dinner, rest and recover our energy.
In the morning, we will organize a fun picnic breakfast at the Yanayacu River in Pucate, one of the best protected and preserved areas of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This area is often visited by pink dolphins.
On our return to Amatista, we will have lunch in the ship's dining room and, after a moment of rest, the guides will give a talk on Amazonian philosophy. Later, we will go to meet the shaman of the San Regis community, a wise man from the native community who will share with us his knowledge about the rituals of his ancestors, medicinal plants and the Amazonian cosmovision. Our guides will be the interpreters in case you wish to ask questions or make comments to the shaman. After this authentic experience of reflection and spiritual exploration, we will continue with a tree planting ceremony, as a contribution to the care of the environment. Back on the boat, you can relax with live music while waiting for dinner. After lunch, the guides will tell us about the next day's activities.
The early morning hours offer a special opportunity to experience the jungle and offer a unique opportunity for bird watching. Therefore, this morning, you'll also have a pre-breakfast boat trip scheduled. This time, the destination is the Iquitos Gorge, a prime area for viewing numerous endemic species. Back on board, a buffet breakfast will be served. After breakfast, we'll begin a hike through the jungle to reach the hanging bridges, a group of structures suspended high in the trees that allow you to walk among the leafy canopy and admire the jungle's treasures from a unique, elevated perspective.
Before noon, we'll return to the boat for lunch on board, then have some time to rest before the next outing. Later, we'll be ready for the boat expedition to Shiriyacu Creek. There, we'll look for a suitable spot for piranha fishing using local equipment and techniques. This area is very popular for observing pink dolphins. Upon returning to the boat, we can relax even further with live music and replenish ourselves with a delicious dinner on board.
We will depart very early by boat to the Gasparito Ravine, a very popular area for bird and primate watching. After breakfast, the bartender will be waiting for us for a demonstration of the Peruvian cocktail, Pisco Sour, Peru's emblematic drink, before disembarking. On the way to the airport, we will visit the River Mammal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (Amazon Forever Organization), where biologists and volunteers care for manatees, an endangered species that authorities have rescued. We will learn how manatees are treated and prepared for their return to their natural habitat. We will also be able to see other animals that have also been rescued. Jungle Experiences actively collaborates with this organization and research center. We invite you to collaborate and contribute to this worthy cause. We will conclude with the transfer to the airport.
