A full private day on the South Coast with a northern lights hunt on the drive back to Reykjavik. Groups of 1-3 travel in a sedan, groups of up to 8 in a van, with your own local driver-guide and no one else on board. Your guide meets you at your Reykjavik accommodation with a VAREN name tablet, and water is available on request.
You walk behind Seljalandsfoss, stand at the foot of Skógafoss, walk to the edge of the Sólheimajökull glacier and see the basalt columns of Reynisfjara black sand beach before a stop in Vík. After dark your guide follows the forecast and stops where the sky is clearest to look for the aurora on the way back.
The day lasts about 12 hours, and the order of stops may change with weather or road conditions. A sighting cannot be guaranteed and there is no retry or refund if the lights do not appear. One price per vehicle.

1Seljalandsfoss
One of Iceland's most recognisable waterfalls, dropping 60 metres in a single elegant curtain. When conditions allow, a path leads behind the falling water - one of the few waterfalls anywhere you can walk around. Waterproofs recommended, the mist reaches further than you think.

2Skogafoss
A wall of water 60 metres high and 25 metres wide, often wrapped in rainbows on bright days. Climb the staircase beside the falls for a sweeping coastal view, or stay below and feel the spray. Local legend says a settler hid treasure behind the water.

3Solheimajokull Glacier
A short walk from the parking area brings you face to face with a glacier tongue flowing down from the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, its ice shifting from white to deep blue. Sturdy shoes recommended - the path is uneven.

4Reynisfjara Beach
Iceland's most famous black sand beach, framed by towering rock columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising offshore. Your guide will brief you on sneaker waves - powerful surges that demand a safe distance from the waterline at all times.

5Vik
The southernmost village in Iceland, tucked between the mountains and the sea, its red-roofed church watching over town. Time for a late lunch and a warm-up before the return leg - cafés and restaurants are available.

Your private vehicle drops you back directly at your Reykjavík accommodation. Estimated return time is between 20:00 and 21:30, depending on aurora activity during the return drive. Door to door, start to finish.
