A valley between two worlds – the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart here, leaving deep cracks in the earth. It is also the birthplace of Iceland’s parliament, where people gathered under the open sky more than a thousand years ago. Walk between cliffs, hear the sound of Öxarárfoss waterfall, and see the small wooden church standing quietly in the field.
A waterfall hidden in the heart of Þingvellir. The river Öxará tumbles down black lava cliffs, its white spray catching the light. Surrounded by moss and stone, it feels both gentle and powerful. The path leads you close enough to hear its constant roar – a reminder of Iceland’s endless water.
A small wooden church with a pointed steeple, standing quietly among the fields of Þingvellir. It has been rebuilt over centuries, yet it keeps its simple grace. Next to it lie old turf houses, once homes of priests. The place feels still, humble, and full of history – a touch of peace in the wide valley.
Steam rises from the ground, the smell of sulfur hangs in the air, and the earth feels alive. Around it, pools bubble and hiss.
Explore the Strokkur geyser, which erupts every 5-10 minutes, sending boiling water 20-30 meters high.
The great Geysir – now mostly quiet – still gives its name to all the geysers in the world.
Gullfoss, or "Golden Falls," plunges 32 meters in two stunning tiers. On sunny days, the mist creates rainbow views over the waterfall, adding to the breathtaking natural beauty.
