    Yu Garden is located in central Shanghai’s Huangpu District, within the bounds of the former Old City. It is the only classic Chinese garden in the downtown area and was originally built as a private garden for Ming Dynasty officials. Spanning around two hectares, the garden features winding pathways, traditional pavilions, ponds, and seasonal flora—offering a peaceful retreat from the city’s modern energy. Visitors can admire hundreds of historical plaques and inscriptions, along with intricate stone carvings (entry ticket required).
