Embark on a unique Byzantine Mosaic Journey. As mosaic art instructors, we will lead you on an artistic exploration of Thessaloniki’s history thru UNESCO heritage places - St. Dementrius Church, Monestery of Osia David (Latomu), Byzantine Bath (the only preserved byzantine bath in Greece). After a byzantine walk enjoy greek coffee, tea or refreshments and local sweet Politiko while making your own, byzantine motifs inspired, glass art mosaic in our studio. You can be part of personalized 5-hour experience in a small group of only 6 participants learning about an art invented by the acient Greeks, and after all you can have your own one-of-a-kind glass mosaic to take with you as a souvenir. Get on the path which is made from colourful mosaic tiles and learn about history of glass, modern stained glass mosaics techiques surrounded with personal guidance and a warm, artistic atmosphere.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
The meeting point is on the square in front of the main entrance to the church Saint Demetrius. Your guide will be waiting for you there, holding a sign with our logo. Beacuse we are going to get to church man should wear trousers over the knee and woman skirt/dress/trousers over the knee.
What to expect
Next, we head to the heart of the Old Town to visit the Monastery Latomou. Together, we will discover the world’s only mosaic of the "Beardless Christ". We will then visit the Byzantine Bath, the best-preserved bath, located right next to the historic Library.
The journey continues at Dimitra’s Art Glass Studio, a boutique creative space. After a warm welcome, you will discover your creative soul through a hands-on workshop. Using our modern and intuitive approach, we will guide you step-by-step through the ancient art of mosaic—no prior experience is required.
You will start by choosing a Byzantine-inspired pattern and high-quality glass pieces to reflect your personal style. With individual support, you will compose your artwork by carefully placing and gluing each piece. In the final stage, you will learn how to fill the gaps with tile grout, completing your creation. You will leave with a one-of-a-kind glass mosaic that reflects your creativity—a lasting souvenir of your artistic journey in Thessaloniki.
