Enjoy hiking with just a daypack as your luggage is transferred between mountain huts. Public highland bus transportation from Reykjavík (BSI Terminal) takes you to Landmannalaugar, the starting point of the trek.
Accommodation is in traditional mountain huts along the trail. This option does not include a guide or meals, giving you full flexibility to hike at your own pace and manage your own food.

Enjoy the scenic journey through Iceland’s rugged interior before arriving at the trailhead and your first mountain hut in the highlands.
Begin your trek through the colorful rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar, crossing steaming geothermal areas and the black obsidian slopes of Hrafntinnusker before descending into the green valleys and volcanic landscapes leading to the huts by Lake Álftavatn.
Hike across wide black sand plains and volcanic landscapes, crossing several glacial rivers as you continue south through the Icelandic highlands toward the mountain hut at Emstrur, with views of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier along the way.
Continue south through dramatic highland landscapes, crossing volcanic sands and scenic river valleys before descending into the lush green oasis of Þórsmörk, surrounded by glaciers and rugged mountain ridges.
Spend the morning exploring the beautiful Þórsmörk Valley, surrounded by glaciers, mountains, and birch forests, with the option to enjoy a short hike in the area. In the afternoon, return to Reykjavík by public highland bus from Þórsmörk to the BSI Bus Terminal, with arrival expected between 17:00 and 18:00.
