    Lago Sandoval

Meet your guide at the Plaza de Armas in Puerto Maldonado before heading to the lodge, located just 25 minutes away. On the way, we’ll pass a small local community where it’s common to spot parrots and macaws. After settling into your riverside room overlooking the Tambopata River, enjoy a short break before starting a 1-hour introductory jungle walk with an expert local guide. Explore ancient trees over 500 years old and observe wildlife such as toucans, oropendolas, monkeys, parrots, butterflies, and more. After a delicious Amazonian lunch, we’ll head out at 3:30 pm for a relaxing boat ride along the Tambopata River to enjoy the sunset. From comfortable panoramic seats, we’ll look for sloths and tropical birds. As night falls, we’ll use flashlights to search for wildlife along the riverbank—white caimans, herons, and with a 90% chance, capybaras, the world’s largest rodent.
