Approximate departure: 3:30 PM Experience one of Tambopata’s newest and most exciting activities: catch-and-release piranha fishing, carried out responsibly to protect the delicate ecosystem of Lake Yacumama. This large, wildlife-rich lake is perfect for birdwatching, home to flocks of up to 200 parakeets, small macaws, and parrots in their natural habitat. The adventure begins with a 25-minute drive from the main square. Upon arrival, a friendly local community member will welcome you and provide eco-friendly fishing rods and bait specially prepared for piranhas. We then take a short 7-minute walk to board a canoe (maximum 7 passengers). At the entrance to Lake Yacumama, you may be greeted by a calm caiman—sometimes even approaching close enough for unforgettable photos.
