Travelers will be picked up from the airport or bus station and taken to the lodge. We’ll drive for about 25 minutes through the city of Puerto Maldonado. Along the way, we’ll pass a small community where you can spot many parrots and macaws.
Upon arrival, you’ll be shown to your private rooms with beautiful views of the Tambopata River.
Connect with the Jungle:
After a short rest, enjoy a 1-hour introductory hike through the tropical rainforest, guided by a local expert. Walk along forest trails surrounded by ancient trees—some over 500 years old—and observe wildlife such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, and more. Experience the magic of the Amazon rainforest firsthand.
Amazonian Lunch
Sunset, Caimans, and Capybaras:
At 3:30 p.m., we’ll set off on a boat trip along the Tambopata River to enjoy the colorful Amazonian sunset. Relax on the comfortable boat with panoramic seats as we look for sloths and tropical birds along the riverbanks. Using the flashlights, we’ll also search for white caimans, herons, and capybaras—the world’s largest rodent—with a 90% chance of spotting them.
DAY 2: Lake Sandoval – Heart of Tambopata National Reserve
Wildlife at Lake Sandoval:
At 5:00 a.m., after breakfast, we’ll prepare the backpacks and head to one of the most stunning spots in Tambopata National Reserve—Lake Sandoval, a 3 km-wide body of water known for its incredible biodiversity.
We’ll take a 1-hour and 20-minute boat ride to the park entrance. After the ranger checkpoint, we’ll walk about 3 km (2 miles) to reach the lake, home to piranhas and surrounded by lush forest.
Then, we’ll board a rowing canoe to explore the lake and spot a variety of wildlife—cormorants, hoatzins, jacanas, herons, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths.
If we’re lucky, we might encounter a family of giant river otters (up to 2 meters long) and even the largest caiman ever recorded (over 4 meters long).
Return to the Lodge & Amazonian Lunch
Night Walk:
After sunset, we’ll grab the flashlights for a guided night hike through the forest. You’ll have the chance to find nocturnal animals and insects such as night monkeys, frogs, tarantulas, rodents, owls, fireflies, and snakes.
We’ll also see fascinating nocturnal plants that only reveal their beauty at night—a truly magical experience in the heart of the Amazon.

Enjoy the Amazon sunrise and the sounds of awakening wildlife—chirping birds and buzzing insects. For bird lovers, this is an unforgettable experience!
At the clay wall, you’ll observe dozens of parrots feeding on mineral-rich clay that helps them detoxify and digest their food. Please keep a safe distance so as not to disturb them.
Breakfast:
Enjoy a delicious continental breakfast before returning.
Return to the City & End of Tour:
Around 10:30 a.m., we’ll pack up and say goodbye to the incredible biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon. We’ll then transfer you back to Puerto Maldonado—either to the airport or the bus station—for your onward journey.
