Swimming in a cenote is a relaxing experience that can be enjoyed in deep freshwater pools. Characteristics of Cenotes They are freshwater pools fed by rainfall and river filtration. The water temperature is a maximum of 24°C. They are formed by the erosion of limestone rocks. They are natural wonders found throughout the country, primarily on the Yucatan Peninsula.
It was founded in 1543 by Francisco de Montejo, "El Nephew," and was formerly inhabited by the Cupules at a site known as Chauac Há, which was part of a Mayan chiefdom.
