The Giza Pyramid Plateau is one of the most famous landmarks in the world and the last surviving wonder of the ancient world. Located about 15 kilometers southwest of Cairo, the three great pyramids, Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos rise majestically on the edge of the Sahara. They were built over 4,500 years ago as monumental tombs of the Pharaohs of the Old Kingdom and testify to an amazing technical and architectural masterpiece. The Great Pyramid of Cheops, with its original height of about 146 meters, was the tallest structure in human history for over 3,800 years. Together with the smaller queen pyramids, the temples and the Great Sphinx, the plateau forms one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the world. Visitors can feel the spirit of ancient Egypt here, which is still alive in the clear desert air and among the massive stones.
The Great Sphinx of Giza is one of the most mysterious and famous monuments of ancient Egypt. With the body of a lying lion and the head of a pharaoh, it symbolizes royal power and divine protection. The massive statue is about 73 meters long and 20 meters high and was carved from a single limestone rock over 4,500 years ago, presumably at the time of Pharaoh Chephren, whose pyramid rises just beyond. The Sphinx has been guarding the pyramid plateau for millennia and faces east towards the rising sun, a symbol of rebirth and eternity in the ancient Egyptian faith. Despite erosion, sand and time, it still exudes an almost mystical dignity that captivates visitors from all over the world.
The Valley Temple of Chephren is one of the best preserved structures of the Giza pyramid complex. It once served as the entry point for the cult of death of the pharaoh Chephren, whose pyramid rises majestically behind it. The temple was built of massive granite blocks and still impresses with its simple, powerful architecture. Ritual ceremonies were held here to mummify and prepare for the royal burial. Particularly noteworthy are the precisely crafted granite columns and the old alabaster floors, which still reflect the splendour of bygone times. Your Egyptologist explains the religious significance of the temple and shows you how ENG it was connected to the Sphinx and the Pyramid of Chephren, a fascinating place where history comes to life noticeably. After visiting the sights, enjoy a traditional Egyptian lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant
