The El Brujo Archaeological Complex is located in the Chicama Valley, north of Trujillo, and is one of the most important archaeological sites on the northern coast of Peru. It presents a continuous cultural sequence of more than 10,000 years, with occupations of the cultures Huaca Prieta, Cupisnique, Salinar, Mochica, Lambayeque, Chimú and even of the colonial period. The site is recognized worldwide for the discovery of the Lady of Cao in 2006, a Mochic ruler whose mummified remains, with complex tattoos of spiders and snakes, challenged previous theories by demonstrating that women held high political and religious positions in ancient Peruvian societies. The complex is characterized by its imposing adobe pyramids, decorated with original polychrome reliefs of great artistic and historical value.

Magdalena de Cao is a picturesque colonial village that functions as the gateway to the ruins and stands out for its strong cultural identity, being a living tribute to the Lady of Cao through thematic murals and local crafts. In addition, it maintains unique traditions such as the famous “Chicha de Año”, a corn beer that is fermented underground for a year, and offers authentic cuisine that combines the flavors of northern Peru with Mochic roots and colonial influences.
