During the tour, we will first visit the Antonio Nariño Museum. What makes the Antonio Nariño Museum special? 1. Birthplace of a national hero Antonio Nariño (1765–1823), a key figure in the Colombian struggle for independence and translator of the Declaration of Human Rights, was born here. The museum is often housed in his original birthplace or a historic building at that location. 2. Personal objects & documents You will often find original letters, diaries, publications, and perhaps clothing or furniture related to his life and work. 3. Colonial architecture & atmosphere Villa de Leyva is a colonial-style city, and such museums offer not only rich historical information but also a glimpse into daily life during that period. 4. Educational exhibitions Interactive or informative panels are often offered about Nariño's role in independence and his political influence.

When visiting the Museum of Palaeontology of the Faculty of Science at the National University guests may see proof that the area around the Villa de Leyva used to be underwater. Fossils of prehistoric animals such as the plesiosaurus, the icthiosaurus and the cronosaurus which lived in this area 13 to 65 million years ago are on display. There are also remains of ammonites and bivalves, among others.
