Visit one of the most beautiful and rare caves in the world, the Cave of the Lakes. It is unique due to its 13 successive, cascading underground lakes spread across three different levels. Visitors can explore approximately 500 meters of the developed section via elevated artificial bridges. The experience is unforgettable, as impressive stalactites and stalagmites are reflected in the still waters, creating a mesmerizing sight. The cave also serves as a paleontological site; fossilized human and animal bones, including those of a hippopotamus, were found on the lower floor. The Natural History Museum is housed within the same complex. In addition to your tour office guide, specialized guides are provided inside the cave and museum, and their services are included in the ticket .

Afterwards, we visit the Historic Mega Spilaio Monastery (Great Cave), Greece’s oldest monastery, founded in 362 AD. Built impressively into a cliff face and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it houses her iconic image, traditionally believed to have been crafted by the Evangelist Luke using mastic and wax. Following a meal at a traditional local tavern,we will visit the area's oldest winery, which belongs to the Monastery. We will see the vineyards, learn how the monks produced wine historically versus today and conclude with a wine tasting of their renowned labels. Finally, we return to Kalavryta for rest. Fully equipped and with expert guides, you will enjoy unique moments of action in a stunning natural environment. Leaving the river, on our way to Kalavryta, we will witness two natural wonders: 1. Pausanias’ Vine (Klima): In the village of Pagkrati stands an ancient, centuries-old grapevine. The famous ancient traveler Pausanias documented it in 500 BC. Today, this plant is over 2,500 years old—a surreal sight. 2. Planitero: A visit to the picturesque village with its magnificent plane forest. You will see the Aroanios River literally gushing from the depths of the earth at its springs. The area features trout farms and traditional taverns where we will sit to enjoy fresh fish, local wine, and raki. Return to the hotel for relaxation. In the evening, unwind with music and a drink at one of Kalavryta's local bars.
Our three-day journey in historic Kalavryta concludes today. After breakfast, we depart for a visit to the Kalavryta Municipal Museum of the Holocaust [1]. Housed in the old primary school, the museum stands as a monument of remembrance and honor for the tragic events of the Occupation, offering a moving look into the history of this place. Following the museum visit, you will have free time for a stroll through the picturesque town and its traditional shops. You can purchase famous local products such as PDO barrel-aged feta cheese, honey, oregano, tea, walnuts, chestnuts, and spoon sweets—ideal souvenirs for you and your loved ones. At midday, we board the legendary Diakofto–Kalavryta Rack Railway, one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. The little train traverses the impressive Vouraikos Gorge, passing through tunnels and over 49 bridges, offering unique images of wild natural beauty. In Diakofto, our bus will be waiting to transfer at famous Corinth Canal.
Arriving at coastal Diakopto, our bus will collect you for the next stop: the emblematic Isthmus of Corinth. There, you will admire this magnificent engineering feat up close. The Isthmus is the narrow strip of land connecting mainland Greece to the Peloponnese. The idea for the canal's opening preoccupied rulers like the 6th century B.C. tyrant Periander of Corinth and the Roman Emperor Nero. The vision became reality in July 1893 with the inauguration of the modern canal, which connects the Saronic with the Corinthian Gulf. We will stop at special viewing points to capture the impressive, vertical cliffs, reaching up to 79 meters high, that frame the narrow channel. After our brief stop, the itinerary concludes with your transfer to the Corinth train station, from where you will depart by train for Athens. Thank you very much for choosing to travel with us on this special experience. We wish you always health and joy in your lives! Have a safe journal.
