Why choose this tour?
As an independent guide, I've created my own tours, driven by my passion for Oslo’s rich culture and history. After years of designing itineraries/scripts for tour companies, I’ve created 'Oslo By Heart' tours to offer a more personal, authentic experience. Unlike the generic tours provided by companies that subcontract local guides, Oslo By Heart tours are thoughtfully crafted and full of personal insights and stories.
Oslo By Heart just launched on Viator/Tripadvisor, so reviews are few, but I am highest rated on other booking platforms (google me).
My average tour group is 2-4 people.
Suitable for:
* Solo Travellers
* Couples
* Groups
* Photo takers
* If you want to see as much as possible in a short time
* Anyone who wants a unique, personal experience with a focus on culture and history
Our meeting point is the “Creature from Iddefjord” sculpture ("Skapning fra Iddefjord") outside the main entrance to Deichman Bjørvika Library. See the tour photos. This is a quiet spot (not used as a meeting point for any other tours), so I'm generally the only other person there, I will find you!
Ends at City Hall (Rådhusset), unless you book the Vigeland Park tour extension, in which case the tour ends at the Vigeland Park.
As we move along the waterfront you will learn fascinating details about the comprehensive urban development that has shaped the Bjørvika district, and which includes the Munch Museum, the Opera, and some other buildings that may surprise you.
We look at the ever expanding floating sauna landscape, and some other fascinating projects uniquer to Oslo.
Here we will dive a little deeper into the history of the city and how it came to be known as Christiania for just over 300 years.
We will ascend to the highest point of the Akershus Fortress grounds for stunning views over the Oslo fjord. On a clear day, you will also be able to spot the famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump.
We carry on towards the heart of Oslo, Karl Johan street. If you like shopping, take note as you might want to return here later.
We will discover how the city and country is governed and entertained, at the Norwegian Parliament and National Theatre.
We take a quick peek at the royal residence and learn about the Norwegian national day and other interesting events.
During the final part of the tour we head towards Oslo’s magnificent City Hall, a hidden gem.
We end the tour in the Aker Brygge district, where I will give you some great tips for visiting the National Museum, Nobel Peace Center, restaurants and Oslo fjord tours.
