Embark on a private hiking adventure—just you and your chosen crew—led by a former park ranger who brings expert insight and passion to every step. This 1.5-mile journey may be easy, with boardwalks and paved trails, but it’s designed to fully immerse you in the awe-inspiring world of an active volcano.
We begin at the steaming Sulfur Banks, where the landscape feels like a portal to Earth’s prehistoric past. From there, we follow the Crater Rim Trail, pausing at dramatic viewpoints overlooking Kīlauea’s summit caldera crater. Along the way, you’ll uncover the fascinating stories of Kīlauea’s geology and its deep connection to Hawaiian culture.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there—we’ll zoom out to explore the formation of the entire Hawaiian Island chain, and dive into the epic voyages of the Polynesian explorers who first settled these islands. It’s not just a hike—it’s a journey through time, nature, and legend.
Arrive at the Visitor Center parking lot about 15 minutes before your 1:00 PM start time. To get there, once you come through the entrance gate, you will proceed through a roundabout onto Crater Rim Drive - West and make the first right turn into the parking lot where your guide will meet you.
