What to expect

Los Glaciares National Park is one of the most important protected areas in Argentina.
It occupies more than 7,000 km2 and protects a part of the South Patagonian Ice Field, the largest continental ice field outside Antarctica and Greenland. Inside are numerous glaciers (including the famous Perito Moreno), lakes of glacial origin such as the Argentine and Viedma, and the imposing mountains of the Fitz Roy massif and Cerro Torre. The park combines icescapes, Andean-Patagonian forests and steppe, offering one of the most spectacular natural settings in the world.

It is about 30 km in length and its front, approximately 5 km wide, rises to 60 - 70 meters above the Argentine Lake. It is one of the few glaciers that still advances (or remains stable) and is famous for its spectacular icefalls and for the phenomenon of “breakage”, when the ice dam it forms breaks periodically. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the great natural attractions of Argentina.
