Learn and experience one of Nagasaki’s most spectacular traditions: the Dragon Dance (Ja-Odori). This lively activity, rooted in Chinese-influenced festival culture, has thrilled locals for generations, bringing good luck and joyous celebration.
Using a smaller, 4-person dragon (a more manageable version of the traditional 10-person dragon), you’ll feel the dragon’s energy as you make it coils and twists, crawl under it, and quest for the golden ball. Move with the recorded beat of drums and gongs and experience the festival spirit up close. Our friendly instructors will guide you every step of the way, so even first-timers can join in the fun.
Highlights:
• An introductory lecture on the history of Dragon Dance
• Practice Dragon Dance performance with an instructor using 4-person dragon
• Perform your Dragon Dance in Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown
(Includes vest rental, up to approximately size 2L)
• Feel free to take photos and videos with your phones or/and cameras.
