The Temple of Philae is a historic architectural complex dedicated to the worship of the goddess Isis, her husband, and their son, Horus. It is one of the most important monuments in Egypt. It was built during the Ptolemaic period and ceased its activity during the Roman era. In the 1970s, the Philae temples were relocated from their original island to the nearby island of Agilkia to save them from being submerged by the construction of the High Dam. Visitors can see reliefs depicting the goddess Isis nursing her son, Horus, a famous scene celebrating his birth. (Admission not included)
The High Dam is a massive, rock-fill dam built on the Nile River in Aswan, Egypt, during the reign of President Gamal Abdel Nasser. Its primary purpose is to control the Nile's flooding, generate electricity, and provide water for agriculture. The dam holds back water to form the giant Lake Nasser, which is used for water storage and to generate electricity via a power plant located on its eastern bank. (Admission not included)
