    Jichang Garden

Hidden inside Huishan Ancient Town in Wuxi, Jichang Garden is one of China's most celebrated classical gardens. Built over 400 years ago, its elegant pavilions, winding paths, and pond reflecting nearby Huishan Mountain create a landscape that feels naturally born, not man-made. So admired was its design that Emperor Qianlong had it copied – twice – for Beijing's Summer Palace and Chengde Mountain Resort.

Step into a living painting along the Grand Canal. Huishan Ancient Town in Wuxi offers a quieter, more authentic alternative to busy water towns like Zhouzhuang or Wuzhen. Wander through centuries-old lanes lined with traditional white-walled buildings, stone bridges arched over slow-moving canals, and ancient banyan trees shading teahouses. This is where locals still sip morning tea and play mahjong by the water. You can visit The legendary Second Spring under Heaven (famously tasted by Emperor Qianlong) and Jichang Garden- a classic Ming Dynasty garden that inspired Beijing's Summer Palace. And the Huishan Clay Figurine Museum, home to the iconic "Grand Ah Fu" folk art. Perfect for a half-day escape from Shanghai or Suzhou. No entrance ticket needed for the town itself – just wander freely, then pay small fees for gardens and sights you wish to enter.
