What to expect

During this 3-hour small-group experience, travelers will explore the social and cultural side of modern Egyptian life through a guided walk and open discussion.

The activity begins with a short introduction in central Aswan, where guests will learn about the structure of Egyptian families and the importance of social reputation.

Participants will then walk through a local market (bazaar), observing everyday shopping culture, traditional products, and social interactions. The guide will explain how bargaining works, what wedding shopping looks like, and how different products reflect cultural values.

After the walk, guests will sit in a local café for an interactive discussion session focused on:

•Women’s daily life in Upper Egypt
• Marriage traditions and family involvement
• Differences between village and city life
• The concept of social expectations (“El-Eib”)
• How ancient traditions still influence modern society

Travelers are encouraged to ask respectful questions and share cultural comparisons from their own countries.

The experience concludes with tea and a reflection conversation before returning to the meeting point.
