Discover 800 years of Amsterdam through highly detailed miniatures. Begin with the origins of Amsterdam in the 13th century, before moving on to a scale model of Dam Square in 1675. After that, the chronological structure is abandoned, and walk past scenes of the Red Light District in the 1990s, the Zaanse Schans (including working windmills), and a Canal Parade scene along the city’s canals. Through video screens and audio, learn more about each setting. Not all scenes are lighthearted: the Nieuwmarkt during the Second World War has also been recreated, complete with miniature barbed wire surrounding the square, as well as a scale model of the Anne Frank House. Elsewhere, visitors encounter a dollhouse-style Rembrandt House and an imposing ship from the Dutch Golden Age.
