Led by a guide who grew up in Oaxaca and has over three years of professional food tour experience, the tour combines history, culture, and cuisine while walking through the historic center.
Jardín San Pablo (San Pablo Garden), Oaxaca Centro. The garden is located on Av. Independencia, between Manuel Fernández Fiallo and Melchor Ocampo, directly across from Centro Cultural San Pablo and one block from Teatro Macedonio Alcalá. Your guide will be waiting by the fountain inside the park.
We finish the tour at Plaza de la Danza, one of Oaxaca’s most charming plazas. This location is a great place to relax, continue exploring the historic center, or easily return to nearby hotels.
We begin the experience at Jardín San Pablo, a quiet garden in the historic center of Oaxaca. Your guide will welcome the group next to the fountain and introduce the culinary traditions that make Oaxaca one of the most famous food destinations in Mexico.
We pass by Centro Cultural San Pablo, a beautifully restored historic complex that was once a Dominican convent. Your guide will briefly explain its cultural importance while we begin our walk through the historic center.
Our first tasting introduces you to one of Oaxaca’s most beloved street foods: the memela. This handmade corn masa dish is topped with traditional ingredients and prepared fresh by local vendors.
At the famous “Pasillo de Humo” (Smoke Hall), guests will experience the vibrant atmosphere of traditional charcoal grills where local meats are prepared. Here we will taste: • Tejate, a refreshing traditional drink made with cacao and maize • Chapulines (toasted grasshoppers), a famous Oaxacan delicacy Trying chapulines is completely optional, but many travelers enjoy tasting them as part of the local culinary tradition.
We continue to the nearby Mercado Benito Juárez, another iconic market full of local flavors. Here guests will enjoy: • Empanada de amarillo, filled with traditional yellow mole • Nicuatole, a classic Oaxacan dessert made from corn Time: 35 minutes
We walk through the Zócalo, the heart of Oaxaca’s historic center, where the Cathedral stands. This lively square is the social center of the city and a perfect place to understand everyday life in Oaxaca.
No visit to Oaxaca is complete without its famous chocolate. Here we enjoy traditional Oaxacan chocolate.
We stop to taste one of Oaxaca’s most iconic dishes: the tlayuda, often called the “Oaxacan pizza.” This large crispy tortilla is topped with beans, cheese, and other traditional ingredients.
Here guests will enjoy traditional Oaxacan ice cream, the perfect refreshing ending to the experience.
