Your adventure begins with an 8:00 AM pick-up in Medellín, followed by a scenic drive into the eastern Andes. After approximately 3.5 hours, we arrive at Finca El Toche around 11:30 AM, a beautiful rural property surrounded by nature. After settling in, we enjoy a traditional lunch at 12:00 PM. At 2:00 PM, we begin the Chocolate Tour, a hands-on cultural experience where you will learn about cacao production from bean to bar. This activity lasts approximately 2.5 hours and offers a unique insight into local traditions. The remainder of the afternoon is free to relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, or casually explore the property at your own pace. Overnight at Finca El Toche.
We start early at 6:00 AM with a guided birdwatching walk through productive forest edges and secondary growth. The morning offers excellent opportunities to observe species such as the White-mantled Barbet, a Colombian endemic, along with the White-bearded Manakin, Crested Oropendola, and flocks of Bronze-winged Parrot. Mixed flocks may include Flame-rumped Tanager and Blue-necked Tanager, while fruiting trees attract species such as the Collared Aracari and the Red-headed Barbet. With luck, elusive species like the Great Antshrike or the striking Rufous Motmot may also be seen. After birding, we return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by relaxed birdwatching at feeders, ideal for close observation and photography. After lunch, we head out for a refreshing visit to Charco El Limón, a beautiful natural pool surrounded by lush forest. Here, guests can enjoy a relaxing swim in crystal-clear waters. We return to the lodge in the afternoon for rest and a peaceful evening.
Our final day begins early at 6:00 AM, when we depart toward La Isabella Birding, located just 15 minutes away. Upon arrival, we enjoy breakfast, followed by a rewarding morning birding session in a habitat that complements the species seen at El Toche. This area provides excellent opportunities to observe species such as the Squirrel Cuckoo moving through the canopy, the impressive Ringed Kingfisher along nearby water sources, and colorful birds like the Flame-rumped Tanager. With patience, more secretive species such as the Russet-crowned Crake may also be detected. After an active morning, we gather for a final lunch before preparing for departure. At approximately 2:30 PM, we begin our return journey to Medellín, arriving around 6:00 PM, marking the end of this memorable birding experience.
