We will start the food tour at San Martin Square, declared a UNESCO World’s Heritage Site. Inaugurated in 1921, this place is surrounded by historical buildings such as the National Club
Walking along the street of Jiron de la Union, you will see that this is a traditional place with a lot of history, and full of commerce.
We will reach a typical restaurant to taste an exquisite sandwich of pork known as “Pan con chicharrón”. This street sandwich is made with pork, fried sweet potato, and onion sauce.
The tour continues to explore the Central Market, a place with a lot of products and good prices. Here, we are going to taste fresh local Peruvian fruit, with time enough to walk around
Our next stop is at the Chinese neighborhood. The Chinese population arrived in Peru in the mid-nineteenth century to cover the missing workforce on the coastal estates. We are going to enjoy Chinese snacks, and visit its picturesque market. We can leave this quarter without tasting “Chifa”, a fusion of Peruvian-Cantonese food, the favorite of many local families
Then, we will walk to the Church of San Francisco to admire the beauty of the architecture around, Here, we will taste “Churros”.
Then, we will visit one of oldest bars in the city, and we will eat a delicious “Causa rellena”. Refresh yourself tasting “Chicha morada”, a sweet drink made of purple corn
The tour continues throughout the Main Square until reach a popular street full of food carts.
We will taste “Anticuchos”, grilled beef hurts skewers marinated with spices. Also, we will taste a traditional dessert known as “Picarones”, a dough made with pumpkin and sweet potato, served with sugar cane syrup. We will taste another Peruvian dessert known as “Mazamorra Morada” made with purple corn, and to finish this amazing experience, we will taste the “Emoliente”, a hot drink with medicinal properties, and very popular among Peruvians.
