La Gran Tavola A Walking Game Through Siena's Banking History

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Most Siena tours tell you the history. This one makes you play it. Your group runs a medieval bank with 1,000 florins: fund a war, survive a crash, pick sides in a blood feud, and decide the fate of Monte dei Paschi, the world’s oldest bank.

At every stop, a different player takes over as leader: they read the story aloud, run the debate and call the vote. Nobody just tags along. Everyone gets their turn.

Everyone plays on their own phone, in the same game. One price covers the whole group, and you start whenever you like, with no guide and no fixed times. At the end, Dante judges your bank: Inferno, Purgatorio or Paradiso.

What to expect

Play a self-guided walking game through Siena’s medieval banking history, right on your phone. Your group runs a young Sienese bank with 1,000 florins and makes the decisions that made (and broke) the city’s great banking families, from funding the battle of Montaperti in 1260 to the founding of Monte dei Paschi, the world’s oldest bank.

At each of the 7 stops you read the real story, discuss it together and decide where your money goes. At the end you find out whether your bank lands in Dante’s Inferno, Purgatorio or Paradiso.

Start any time at the Duomo steps. The route is about 2.7 km through the historic centre and takes about 2 hours, including roughly 45 minutes of walking. One booking covers the whole group: everyone joins the same game on their own phone. No guide is present.
