Our first stop is Strakonice, the Czech town of bagpipes, famous for the legend of Švanda the bagpiper. Here you'll enjoy a three-course seasonal lunch with a drink at Sůl a řepa, a restaurant recommended in the MICHELIN Guide, known for its modern take on Czech cuisine and local ingredients. During lunch, you'll try an old Czech Christmas custom: cutting an apple crosswise to see what the new year will bring. A star inside means health and happiness!
In the afternoon, we continue to Hluboká Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic. This white neo-Gothic fairytale castle was modelled on Windsor Castle. You'll take the special winter tour through the private apartments of its last owners, the Schwarzenberg family, and then enjoy a short walk around the castle grounds, especially magical when covered in snow.
We end the day at the Christmas market in České Budějovice, set on Přemysl Otakar II Square – one of the largest town squares in Central Europe, with the baroque Samson Fountain in its centre. Stroll among the wooden stalls, warm up with a cup of mulled wine, watch the skaters on the ice rink and enjoy the view from the Ferris wheel. You'll have free time to shop for Christmas gifts, handmade decorations and local treats before we head back to Prague.
