Your private driver-guide will collect you from your Belfast city center hotel (within 1km of City Hall) in a luxury Mercedes V-Class. Get comfortable with bottled water and Wi-Fi on board, as we depart by morning for the Antrim Coast. Enjoy a scenic drive through rolling countryside and charming villages as your guide shares local history and stories.
Stroll beneath the hauntingly beautiful avenue of intertwined beech trees known as The Dark Hedges, planted over 300 years ago. This atmospheric tree tunnel – famous as the King’s Road in Game of Thrones – is a photographer’s dream. You'll have time for a short walk under the canopy of twisting branches to capture the perfect shot and soak in the otherworldly ambiance.
Dare to cross the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, a historic fishermen’s bridge suspended nearly 100 feet (30 m) above the Atlantic Ocean. (If conditions permit and you’re brave enough!) This stop offers thrilling coastal views of rocky cliffs and distant islands. Even if you opt not to cross, the clifftop viewpoint provides a spectacular panorama of Rathlin Island and Scotland on the horizon.
– Continue along the stunning Causeway Coastal Route to Ballintoy Harbour, a quaint fishing harbour nestled among rugged cliffs and sea stacks. Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize this serene cove as the Iron Islands (Pyke) setting. Wander the small pier and rock formations, admire turquoise waters, and snap photos of one of Northern Ireland’s most picturesque harbours.
Pause at the White Park Bay viewpoint overlooking a sweeping arc of golden sand and rolling dunes. This unspoiled beach is often dotted with grazing cows and offers a tranquil photo opportunity. Breathe in the fresh sea air and enjoy views of the North Atlantic Coast – a refreshing moment to appreciate Northern Ireland’s natural beauty.
Arrive at the Giant’s Causeway, the day’s center piece and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the legendary basalt columns that rise in hexagonal steps from the sea – approximately 40,000 of them created by ancient volcanic activity (or by the giant Finn McCool, as local legend goes). Spend ample time walking the cliffside trails, clambering over the otherworldly “stepping stones,” This is a truly unforgettable Northern Ireland experience and a highlight of any trip.
Next, stop in the village of Bushmills to visit the Old Bushmills Distillery, the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery (dating back to 1608). Enjoy a quick distillery visit or browse the gift shop for a souvenir bottle of famous Irish whiskey. If time permits, you may opt for a brief tasting of Bushmills’ award-winning malt – a warm, authentic Irish welcome.
Cap off your coastal journey with a photo stop at the clifftop ruins of Dunluce Castle. Perched dramatically on the edge of a basalt outcrop above the waves, this 14th-century castle ruin boasts a history of intrigue and offers a jaw-dropping vista. Hear tales of its past (including its appearance as the House of Greyjoy’s Castle Pyke in Game of Thrones) while capturing memorable photos of the rugged castle silhouetted against the North Atlantic.
After a full day of sightseeing, relax in your luxury vehicle for the return drive to Belfast. Enjoy the last glimpses of the Antrim Coast as we drive back to your hotel or drop-off point. You’ll arrive in Belfast approximately 7 hours after departure, with plenty of incredible memories and photos of your Giant’s Causeway and coastal adventure.
